About the Event

Dress: Cocktail Casual

Step back in time with us to the dawn of the 20th Century and join us for GRAND HIGH TEA at the Edwin Hite Ferguson’s new Third Avenue mansion.

Although we were too polite to ask, we discovered the home cost $100,000 to build—more than any previous mansion in Louisville cost to build. The Fergusons scoured the world for the most extravagant and unusual accoutrements to add to their Beaux Art dream home. But—as my mother often reminded me--PRIDE GOETH BEFORE A FALL--, and business reverses forced them to sell the property in 1924 to the Pearson family who operated a funeral home there until 1978. John Y Brown, Jr. used it as headquarters for his successful gubernatorial campaign.

Tom Owen will discuss a History of Old Louisville at the turn of the 20th century.

Hosts: Carol Hebel, Jeanne James, Tom Owen, Suzanne Spencer, Tinker Zimmerman
